7 USEFUL TIPS FOR USING YOUR PRESSURE COOKER

Posted on April 28, 2022 by Cecil Andrews

USING YOUR PRESSURE COOKER

Pressure cookers are ideal for healthy cooking since they may cut cooking time in half while retaining all nutrients. This equipment is great for quickly preparing slow-cooked foods. Pressure cookers are also cost-effective since they minimize the amount of energy required to prepare a meal and can tenderize any cut of meat. Here are some pointers on how to make the most of your pressure cooker!

1: Always read the instructions before proceeding.

If you don’t handle the appliance properly, the heat created by the steam can cause a nasty burn. Modern pressure cookers have a number of safeguards in place to prevent this from occurring. To prevent being hurt, make sure you always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for your individual pressure cooker.

2: Liquid is essential

Without any form of liquid, you can’t and shouldn’t use your pressure cooker. Steam is used to cook in pressure cookers. There will be no steam if you do not add a liquid. The minimum and maximum quantity of liquid necessary for the machine to function effectively will be specified in the instructions. Keep in mind that various recipes may need varying liquid quantities.

3: Before cooking the meat, brown it.

Browned meat looks and tastes better, and it’s more appealing. However, since a pressure cooker does not brown food, browning the meat before putting it in the pressure cooker is essential. If you’re pressed for time, you may skip this step. It’ll still be delectable!

4: Maintain a high level of pressure

When the required pressure has been attained, start cooking, according to the recipe. Increase the power of the hob to full so that it may quickly achieve the necessary pressure level and begin the pressure cooking operation. Food might overcook if it takes too long to attain the required pressure and temperature, and prescribed timings will be incorrect. Once the right pressure level has been obtained, reduce the heat to the lowest setting while maintaining the pressure. If you’re not sure how to proceed, go to the manufacturer’s instructions for further information.

5: Be sure to adhere to the minimum and maximum marks.

Don’t go over the minimum and maximum marks on the inside of your pressure cooker’s pot. A pressure cooker should never be more than 2/3 full, and liquids should never be more than half filled. When the pressure release valve is overfilled, food shoots out. You’ll also need enough open space within the pot for steam to build up and cook.

6: Use caution while releasing pressure.

Turning off the heat and letting the steam escape on its own; opening a pressure release valve (always wear stove gloves for this! ); and submerging the pressure cooker in cold water are the three options for releasing steam in most pressure cookers. To avoid mishaps and burns, modern cookers contain a safety function that prevents you from opening the lid. Never open the lid by squeezing it. If you’re in a hurry, run the cooker under cold water until the pressure gauge decreases and the lip easily comes off.

7: Clean it and don’t store food in it.

Food storage is not possible with a pressure cooker. Wash them with dish soap and a running tap, removing the rubber gasket (which closes the lid) for a thorough clean. Some pots are dishwasher safe, while others are not; always verify the manufacturer’s instructions. Deep clean every aspect of the pressure cooker once in a while to prevent any accumulation. Make sure your pressure cooker is completely dry. Before putting it away in the cabinet, let it out for a few hours to make sure it’s thoroughly dry.
